Brownsville, TX -- International Shipbreaking, LLC. Vice President Robert Berry has been appointed to the Marine Transportation System National Advisory Council (MTSNAC) by U.S. Department of Transportation Maritime Administrator Paul N. Jaenichen.

Mr. Berry has more than 30 years of experience in the marine recycling industry, including managing the dismantling/recycling of Navy and commercial ships, drilling rigs and other maritime equipment.

“Serving on this advisory council will allow me to bring the needs of our community and the Port of Brownsville to the attention of the U.S. Department of Transportation, as well as have a voice on matters associated to transportation as it relates to the Martine Transportation System,” said Mr. Berry. “It’s an honor and a privilege to represent South Texas.”

MTSNAC is a chartered, non-federal body that advises the U.S. Secretary of Transportation on Marine Transportation System (MTS) issues, including the effective use and expansion of America’s Marine Highways, sufficient shipbuilding capacity, and port development challenges. The MTSNAC is comprised of 29 leaders from commercial transportation firms, port and water stakeholders, labor, and Federal, state and local public entities. The Council provides an industry stakeholder and academic prospective to Departmental policies that affect efficient and environmentally friendly waterborne freight and passenger movements.

Appointments to MTSNAC are made once a year. U.S. Congressman Filemon Vela and Port of Brownsville Director & CEO Eduardo Campirano submitted letters of recommendation in support of Mr. Berry’s application. Mr. Berry’s two-year term began July 1, 2016. His first meeting is July 19 in Arlington, Virginia.

International Shipbreaking, LLC. is located at the Port of Brownsville, and is a subsidiary of EMR USA.
