Company to Invest More than $105 Million and Create 415 Jobs Over Five Years

Exports grew 15 percent between the second quarters of 2017 and 2018
St. Paul, MN — Sales of Minnesota agricultural, mining and manufactured exports grew 15 percent to a second quarter record of $5.9 billion, according to figures released by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).
Minnesota represents the 11th largest gain in exports nationwide for this period. U.S. exports as a whole were up 11 percent, with 43 states reporting increased export sales.
It is unknown whether countermeasures on U.S. exports had any impact on these statistics. Countermeasures were implemented in June and July by Canada, Mexico, China, and the European Union as a response to U.S. tariffs on select products from those regions.

Company adding to manufacturing operations, creating 132 jobs
St. Paul, MN — Commercial HVAC manufacturer Daikin Applied Americas Inc. will create 132 jobs and invest $40.3 million to expand its manufacturing operations in Faribault.
The company said it will buy an existing 300,000-square-foot warehouse and renovate the building into a state-of-the-art production facility. The new jobs will be created within five years and pay wages that average $22.20 an hour.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) is supporting the project with a $750,000 loan from the Minnesota Investment Fund and a $1.6 million grant from the Job Creation Fund. The company will receive the funding after it meets investment and hiring commitments.

St. Paul MN — American wind power added jobs over 9 times faster than the overall economy amid robust growth for another year, according to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), which released its 2016 U.S. Wind Industry Annual Market Report at the Minnesota State Capitol. Installing over 8,000 megawatts (MW) of new wind power for a second straight year, the U.S. industry invested over $14 billion in 2016 in new wind farms built in rural America, and now supports a record-high 102,500 jobs.

Mankato, MN -- The Mankato – North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) had a slight uptick in jobs for the month of October, up by 0.4% or 242 jobs as compared to October of 2015. The Greater Mankato area saw an all-time high for employment with 57,778 jobs.
Mankato - North Mankato MSA has typically had a very strong 4th Quarter per seasonal trends. October has the highest levels of employment. The strength of the 4th quarter is related to seasonal hiring related to holiday purchasing, which impact multiple sectors including retail, wholesale, and manufacturing.

Company will invest $33.9 million and create 50 jobs
St. Paul, MN -- Federal Cartridge Co. announced plans to create 50 jobs and invest $33.9 million on upgrades and capacity expansion at its manufacturing facility in Anoka.
The ammunition maker said it will update machinery and equipment and will renovate its production plant, including improving utilities and the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. The new jobs will be created over the next two years and pay total wages of more than $17 an hour.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) is supporting the project with a $258,000 grant from the Job Creation Fund and a $900,000 loan from the Minnesota Investment Fund. The loan may be forgiven if the company meets its hiring and investment commitments.

Duluth, MN -- maurices unveiled the design of its new headquarters building. The new maurices Headquarters, located at 425 West Superior Street, will be approximately 200,000 square feet, stand 11 stories in height and span an entire city block. It’s the largest downtown commercial development in Duluth’s history.

National transport logistics company makes room for growth
Dayton, MN -- Groundbreaking on a new building expansion project commenced last Monday, June 1, at King Solutions’ Minnesota headquarters. The location currently houses the corporate business operations along with a large portion of the company’s warehousing and trailer transportation services. King Solutions’ business is growing, and the company needs to accommodate the uptick in order to serve its customers in the most efficient manner possible.
“The extra room will ensure that we can continue to build and deliver customized solutions for our clients.”
The expansion includes an additional 54,276 square feet of warehouse space, bringing the total property, headquarters included, to approximately 200,000 square feet. The new warehouse facility will accommodate an additional 3,000 pallet positions and house a fleet of over 150 trailers. In line with King Solutions’ ThinKING Green initiative, the building will feature energy-efficient motion-sensor lighting and video surveillance.
