Companies Launching New Entertainment Production Hub in Stamford, Plan to Create 450 Jobs

Hartford, CT -- Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that award-winning entertainment production group ITV America – the largest independent producer of non-scripted entertainment content in the United States – will be relocating a significant portion of its business operations to Stamford (the company will also maintain production and office staff in its New York and Los Angeles offices). Additionally, newly launched Wheelhouse Entertainment – founded by entrepreneur and media magnate Brent Montgomery – also will be using Stamford as one of its bases of operations.

Combined, the two entertainment companies plan to create approximately 450 jobs in Stamford across areas of finance and operations, production, and post-production, and more.

“Over the last several years, Connecticut has seen significant growth among media production companies, and we are pleased that ITV America and Wheelhouse have decided to establish operations in our state,” Governor Malloy said. “Connecticut is home to more than 1,200 media-related businesses that employ over 16,000 people. These two nationally renowned production companies plan to create hundreds of good jobs for our state’s residents, and we welcome them to our community.”

Community and Economic Development Director JJ Johnston

Oro Valley, AZ -- The Town of Oro Valley will officially welcome Jimmy (JJ) Johnston as the Director of Community and Economic Development. The addition of Johnston to the Oro Valley team is part of the Town’s efforts to streamline processes, expand levels of service to the community, and fulfill Council’s goal of increased focus on economic development.

During his many years of experience in economic development, Johnston has held executive leadership roles, including president/CEO, of six regional economic development organizations/chambers of commerce located in Texas, Colorado and New Mexico. He has helped to facilitate the retention, expansion and attraction of hundreds of primary employers into client communities. Those companies have created thousands of new job opportunities and have generated billions of dollars of new capital investment into the United States.

Hanwha Q CELLS Korea to invest $150 million in Dalton

Dalton, GA -- Governor Nathan Deal announced that Hanwha Q CELLS Korea, a leader in the global solar industry, will create more than 500 jobs and invest $150 million in a new solar module manufacturing facility in Dalton.

“Georgia has maintained strong partnerships with Korean businesses for more than three decades and this announcement is yet another reflection of our reputation as a premier destination for international business,” said Deal. “By establishing a presence in Whitfield County, Hanwha Q CELLS Korea will join a number of Korean-affiliated companies that operate at least 80 facilities in our state. As the No. 1 state for business, Georgia offers the skilled workforce and extensive manufacturing resources needed for Hanwha Q CELLS Korea to maintain its competitive edge in the global solar industry. We appreciate Hanwha Q CELLS Korea’s significant investment in Georgia and look forward to the company’s success in Dalton.”

Hanwha Q CELLS Korea will produce high-performance and high-quality photovoltaic modules at the new facility. The facility is scheduled for completion in 2019.

Automotive supplier investing $19.4 million to create 56 new jobs
 
Columbia, SC — JTEKT North America, a producer of bearings, driveline components, steering systems and machine tools, announced that it is investing $19.4 million to expand its existing Koyo Bearings production facility in Oconee County. The growth will result in the creation of 56 new jobs.
 
Established in 1960, this manufacturing plant was purchased by JTEKT Group in 2010 and operates as Koyo Bearings, supplying bearings and steering systems to major automotive manufacturers. A subsidiary of JTEKT Group, JTEKT North America currently employs more than 5,400 associates at 14 manufacturing facilities across the continent.

Manufacturer to invest $3.4 million, create nearly 70 jobs 

Nashville, TN — Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe and Coil Design Corporation officials announced that the manufacturer will invest $3.4 million to establish its corporate headquarters and a manufacturing plant in Dayton.

Coil Design Corporation plans to create nearly 70 jobs over the next two years.

“For decades, Dayton has had a rich manufacturing legacy, especially in skilled trades that supply the HVAC industry,” Rolfe said. “By establishing its headquarters and production in Dayton, Coil Design Corporation will play a crucial role in boosting the local economy and providing jobs for the citizens of Rhea County. I’d like to thank Coil Design Corporation’s leadership for the confidence it has in the skilled workforce of Rhea County and look forward to its future impact on the community.”

Amada North America, Inc. will invest $87 million in High Point

Raleigh, NC — Amada North America, Inc., a manufacturer of precision sheet metal fabricating equipment, will develop a new product line in Guilford County creating 201 new jobs over the next five years, Governor Roy Cooper announced. Amada will invest $87 million in a facility in High Point that will manufacture and assemble a line of high-precision press break bending equipment for the U.S. market.

“Manufacturers choose North Carolina because of our existing skilled workforce and our commitment to training the workforce they’ll need in the future,” said Governor Cooper. “I join Guilford County and High Point communities in welcoming Amada’s new facility and the opportunities it will bring.”

Freeport, TX -- On Saturday, May 5, voters approved Proposition A, a $130 million bond package supporting the Freeport Harbor Channel Improvement Project. The proposition passed with 58 percent of the votes, clearing the way for the Port to proceed with an improvement project that will deepen Freeport Harbor Channel from its current depth of 45 feet to a maximum level of 55 feet at its deepest point.
 
“First and foremost, we’d like to thank the voters for helping us take the next step toward realizing our vision for Port Freeport to be the leading deep-water port in the Gulf of Mexico and one of the top in the nation. Based on the election results, it’s clear that the voters see the benefit of improving the channel so their port, Port Freeport, can safely accommodate the larger ships that are currently in use and attract new liner services,” said Phyllis Saathoff, Executive Director and CEO of Port Freeport. “Managing the total tax rate without an increase while accomplishing this project is a winning situation for everyone. Valdosta, GA -- The Valdosta-Lowndes County Development Authority (VLCDA) announced that Metal Benderz, a Georgia-based company that designs, engineers, manufactures, and fabricates cold-formed steel framing systems will be relocating to Hahira Business Park.
 
Metal Benderz will occupy the former Wireco building, which has remained vacant for the past 10 years. With an initial capital investment of $1.5 million, followed by an additional $3.5 million within the second year, Metal Benderz has started renovations on the 62,000-square-foot facility and expect to be fully operational by June 1, 2018.

Little Rock, AR — Bank of the Ozarks will construct its fourth operations building in downtown Ozark and create as many as 133 new jobs over the next five years. Plans for the new building and local jobs were announced April 19.

George Gleason, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of the Ozarks, said the new operations building will add 36,761 square feet of office space and additional parking to the bank’s campus at the intersection of West College Street and North 7th Street. It will join three existing buildings that house Bank of the Ozarks’ operations centers and backup data facility.

Company to Retain and Grow Workforce to More Than 13,000 Jobs While Investing More Than $800 Million in Connecticut

Hartford, CT — Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced an historic partnership with General Dynamics Electric Boat (EB) that will help the company grow their workforce by nearly 1,900 bringing it to more than 13,000 by 2034, allow for capital investments of greater than $800 million in the state over the next 17 years, and more than double their spending on in-state suppliers, which are located in 102 Connecticut cities and towns. Connecticut’s investment will allow EB to maintain its position as the highest-quality provider of submarines to the U.S. Navy, thus capturing additional overhaul and repair work while continuing the delivery of the Virginia Class Submarines.

“Since the American Revolution, the Provision State has earned its reputation as the Submarine Capitol of the World, thanks to our ingenuity and ceaseless resolve,” Governor Malloy said. “From helicopters, to fighter jets and submarines, Connecticut is a worldwide leader in aerospace and defense manufacturing. Our state’s partnership with General Dynamics Electric Boat will ensure that thousands of good-paying manufacturing jobs continue to grow for years to come. This isn’t just a good deal for southeastern Connecticut, it’s a good deal for residents across the state, where over 700 supply chain companies with locations in over 100 towns will see increased demand from the best submarine maker in the world.”

Mesa, AZ – Commercial Metals Company (CMC) has broken ground on a 63,000 square foot expansion to create spooled rebar at CMC Steel Arizona, an environmentally responsible micro mill in southeast Mesa.

"CMC Steel's commitment to innovation and new technology makes them a leader in the steel production, fabrication and recycling industry," Mayor John Giles said. "We are proud of the work they do here in Mesa and look forward to their continued success."

The company is investing in a spooler to produce hot-rolled, spooled rebar at its 260 acre campus located at 11444 E. Germann Road. This will be CMC’s second spooler operation in the United States. The first was recently built at their new micro mill in Durant, Oklahoma.
