Manufacturing facility in St. John the Baptist Parish would result in more than 200 new direct and indirect jobs; finished product to be used in the oil and gas drilling industry

Baton Rouge, LA -- Gov. Bobby Jindal and President and CEO Alan Roughead of First Bauxite Corp. of Canada announced the company plans to invest $200 million to develop a bauxite processing plant on the Mississippi River in St. John the Baptist Parish. The project would create 100 new direct jobs ranging from entry level to skilled trade and professional management positions at an average annual salary of $70,000, plus benefits. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project would result in an additional 117 new indirect jobs, for a total of more than 200 jobs in the River Parishes and the Southeast Louisiana region. At peak building activity, the company estimates the project would generate 150 construction jobs.

Based in Toronto, First Bauxite has concluded a feasibility study calling for the company to mine bauxite – an alumina-based ore – from Guyana, on the northern coast of South America, and ship it to Louisiana. There, the company would use the bauxite to manufacture ceramic proppants for the oil and gas industry. Proppants are sands or manufactured ceramic materials added to an industrial fluid to keep a hydraulic facture open – during or following the fracking process.

Wal-Mart Slated to Open Doors in Early Fall of 2016

Frederick, MD -- Construction is currently underway for the new 190,000 square foot Wal-Mart Supercenter, to be built in Frederick on the northwest corner of Monocacy Boulevard and Route 26.

The Frederick Trading Center, where the Wal-Mart Supercenter will be located, was acquired by Matan Companies in 2010 with a vision for redevelopment. After several years of working with city residents, staff, and officials to gain approval, the developer has been given the green light to begin construction. “This redevelopment was truly a collaborative effort between Wal-Mart, the City of Frederick, and most importantly, the surrounding neighbors,” said Karl Morris, Director of Development. “We are excited to see this redevelopment move to the next stage.”

In addition to the Wal-Mart Supercenter, 3 pad sites on the front of the project will complete the redevelopment. Currently, Matan is at final lease negotiations with Chick-fil-A to occupy the corner pad, with a strong groundswell of interest in the other sites as well. The 2 remaining pads are ideal for bank, convenience, food service, and many other retail businesses.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Wal-Mart to our site,” said JP Matan, Director of Leasing for Matan Companies. “The combination of Wal-Mart and Chick-fil-A is one that will provide a perfect bookend compliment to the Wegman’s anchored site to our west. The completion and opening of Wal-Mart will solidify the 26 corridor as a bona fide regional retail powerhouse.”

Demolition should be completed later this summer with Wal-Mart slated to open its doors in early fall of 2016.

“The Paris Air Show presents a wonderful opportunity for us to share the many reasons the aerospace sector is thriving in Arkansas,” said Governor Hutchinson. “We will meet with companies ranging from small start-ups to the largest aerospace companies in the world. We have only been here a short time and I’m already encouraged by the reception we are receiving from companies who know little about the state.”

Chicago, IL -- The Reshoring Initiative, an organization committed to helping manufacturers recognize the profit potential of domestic sourcing and production, has published its “Top Reshoring Cases” infographic that illustrates the U.S. manufacturing advantages driving reshoring. A growing number of companies across the country, including the top reshoring cases listed in the last “slide”, are bringing manufacturing and thousands of jobs home from offshore.

Escalating offshore wages are causing companies to reevaluate total cost and the news is good; more companies are reshoring. With a skilled U.S. workforce, quality and productivity three times higher than low-labor-cost countries, along with shorter supply chains that lead to higher customer responsiveness, the United States is an attractive place for reshoring.

Trenton, NJ -- Angel Medical Systems in Shrewsbury realizes that many people do not recognize the symptoms of heart attacks or do not take the warning signs seriously enough.  The growing technology company also knows that every minute counts when dealing with a heart attack.  With these factors in mind, Angel Medical Systems developed an implantable device that monitors an individual’s heart, alerting to changes often seen before, or at the onset of, a heart attack.  The company’s signature product, AngelMed Guardian® System, is designed to identify changes in the heart rhythm, alert patients to seek medical attention and store electrocardiogram (ECG) traces for later analysis.

“The device monitors your heart's electrical signal 24 hours a day, 7 days a week looking for changes that may indicate that your heart is not getting enough oxygen and that you might soon experience a heart attack,” Angel Medical Systems President and Chief Financial Officer Andrew Taylor explained.  “The system may potentially detect heart attacks in high-risk patients who have no symptoms or have symptoms that are not typical.”
