Facility will set new standards in regards to manufacturing technology

Cambridge, Ontario -- Héroux-Devtek Inc. (TSX: HRX) (“Héroux-Devtek” or the “Corporation”), a leading international manufacturer of aerospace products, proceeded today with the inauguration of a new manufacturing facility in the city of Cambridge, Ontario. This facility is one of the key constituents of Héroux-Devtek’s comprehensive capital investment plan aimed essentially at successfully carrying out an important long-term contract to supply The Boeing Company with complete landing gear systems for the B-777 and B-777X aircraft, for which deliveries are scheduled to begin in early calendar year 2017.

The 108,000 square foot facility, located in Cambridge’s new Boxwood Business Campus, will primarily manufacture large-scale, complex landing gear components. It is currently in the pre-production phase and is expected to be fully operational in June 2015. The Cambridge plant results in the creation of approximately 40 highly-skilled new jobs, while helping to retain existing jobs in Ontario. If required, the facility could be expanded by approximately 100,000 square feet. The company will generate 1,000 jobs with an average salary of $82,000

Tempe, AZ -- Chicago-based private banker Northern Trust will open a $95 million office complex and bring 1,000 jobs to Tempe's Discovery Business Campus as part of a deal struck with the Arizona Commerce Authority and the city.

Northern Trust is expected to occupy about 450,000 square feet in three new buildings near the northwestern corner of Elliot Road and Loop 101, with the first building ready by December. The company could begin filling a second office tower by 2018 and finish the complex by 2021, according to a Tempe government report. Read Full Story...

Telephone answering service firm opening new office in the Lowcountry

High concentration of high technology, engineering workforce positions Space Coast at #7

Brevard County, FL -- In a recently released Brookings Institute report focused on the next generation workforce, Brevard County took the #7 spot on the list of metropolitans with the greatest share of Advanced Industries employment. The Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville metro was listed in impressive company with heavy technology hitters like San Jose, Seattle, San Francisco and it beat out Boston, Houston and San Diego to round out the top ten.

Gaithersburg, MD -- The U.S. Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced the award of new cooperative agreements to 10 nonprofit organizations and universities to manage Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) centers. NIST’s MEP program helps small- and mid-size manufacturers create and retain jobs, increase profits and save time and money. In an open competition, the existing MEP centers in Colorado, Connecticut, Indiana, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia, were selected to receive a total of $26 million in federal funding, an increase of about $10 million or nearly 60 percent. The funding will allow the centers to reach new customers and offer new services.

“We are excited to award new agreements that bring increased funding levels to better meet the needs of manufacturers in these 10 states,” said Acting Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and Acting NIST Director Willie May. “These awards will allow the centers to help more manufacturers reach their goals in growth and innovation, which will have a positive impact on both their communities and the U.S. economy.” Read Full Story...

Cuomo calls for a $2.50 increase to the tipped minimum wage and review of two-tiered wage system, affecting a predominantly female workforce

New York, NY -- In an important step toward wage equality for the vast majority of New York State’s 400,000 tipped employees -- a predominantly female workforce -- Governor Cuomo will  announce a $2.50 increase to the tipped minimum wage, raising it from $5.00 an hour, which it has been frozen at since 2011, to $7.50 an hour.
 
Nationally, tipped restaurant workers -- more than 70% of which are women -- are twice as likely to use food stamps than the general workforce and three-times as likely to live in poverty. Additionally, the EEOC has targeted the restaurant industry as the single largest source of sexual harassment charges, with a rate five-times higher than any other industry. Read Full Story...

$15.4 million capital investment expected to result in 115 new jobs

Columbia, SC -- Footprint, LLC, a company that specializes in the direct manufacturing of sustainable materials and packaging, is establishing manufacturing operations in Chester County. The company is investing $15.4 million to establish the facility, creating an expected 115 new jobs over the next five years.

Headquartered in Gilbert, Ariz., Footprint was founded by two former employees of the Intel Corporation, Troy Swope and Yoke Chung. Determined to change the way products are manufactured and packaged, Footprint provides economical and environmentally-friendly packaging solutions to its customers. Garner, NC -- Butterball, LLC this week announced the purchase of a strategically located further processing facility in Raeford, North Carolina. The purchase of this facility, closed by its previous owners in December 2014, was completed on February 19, 2015, and will help the company continue to meet growing consumer demand for a variety of Butterball turkey products.

E-commerce site to invest $10 million into a new distribution and fulfillment center in Albany

Atlanta, GA -- Governor Nathan Deal announced today that WebstaurantStore, an e-commerce brand that sells restaurant equipment and supplies, will create 150 jobs and invest $10 million into a distribution and fulfillment center in Albany over the next three years.

Lockheed Martin executive Randy O'Neal and Gov. Robert Bentley listen at a ceremony marking an expansion at the company's Troy facility

Fort Smith, AR -- Mars Petcare is planning an $81.7 million expansion of its facility at Chaffee Crossing that will add an estimated 95 good-paying jobs, according to information with a “Tax Back” resolution on the Tuesday (Feb. 17) agenda of the Fort Smith Board of Directors.

It’s the second significant expansion of the plant in the past two years. Mars Petcare – based in Brussels, Belgium, with a U.S. headquarters located south of Nashville, Tenn. – opened the Chaffee Crossing site in September 2009. In October 2013 the company announced a $50 million expansion that was expected to add 42 jobs.

Mars Petcare announced November 2007 it would build an $80 million pet food plant at Chaffee Crossing and employ 200 full-time workers when the plant was fully operational. At the time of the announcement, the city of Fort Smith estimated the plant would result in an annual payroll of $7.07 million, with the average annual salary around $35,300. Read Full Story....

WASHINGTON – The Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration today proposed a framework of regulations that would allow routine use of certain small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in today’s aviation system, while maintaining flexibility to accommodate future technological innovations.

The FAA proposal offers safety rules for small UAS (under 55 pounds) conducting non-recreational operations. The rule would limit flights to daylight and visual-line-of-sight operations. It also addresses height restrictions, operator certification, optional use of a visual observer, aircraft registration and marking, and operational limits. Read Full Story...

Opelika, AL -- California-based Golden State Foods will build a meat-processing plant in Opelika , bringing approximately 175 jobs to the area to produce hamburger patties and other ground beef products for the restaurant industry.

According to Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller and Golden State Foods officials, the project — announced during a teleconference Tuesday at Opelika Power Services — will mean a $50 million capital investment in Opelika .

“We want good-paying jobs. We think a lot of good things happen when good-paying jobs arrive,” Fuller said. “This will be 170-plus good-paying jobs in Opelika and the surrounding areas. It’s very exciting. It’s a brand-new sector for us. We have automotive, we have medical device manufacturing, we have vitamins, minerals and nutrition, and now we’ll be in the meat-processing business with Golden State Foods. Ireland -- Combilift Ltd. is to invest $50 million over the next two years in a new manufacturing facility in Ireland, which will also create 200 additional jobs over the next five years. This announcement was made by Irish Prime Minster Enda Kenny along with the Irish Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton on a visit to Combilift’s current headquarters in Monaghan, Ireland on Friday February 6.

This expansion will enable Combilift to proceed with its plan to double its current $190 million turnover over the next five years. The majority of the 200 new jobs to be created will be for skilled technicians and design engineers and a further 200 jobs will also be created during the two year construction period of the new facility. IBM technology facility will anchor 88-acre, CenturyLink-affiliated technology park and mixed-use development; with State of Louisiana support, local universities will dramatically expand technology-focused offerings

Monroe, LA -- Gov. Bobby Jindal and IBM Senior Vice President Colleen Arnold joined CenturyLink CEO and President Glen Post, Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret and other officials to announce that IBM will establish a 400-job Application Development and Innovation Center in Monroe, from which the company will provide software technology services to clients across the United States. IBM also will partner with CenturyLink on research, development and product innovation initiatives.

The IBM center in Monroe represents a multifaceted, transformational partnership that will include expanded higher-education programs related to computer science, as well as a major new technology park and mixed-use, real estate development that will catalyze new economic growth opportunities in Monroe. The IBM center will employ a broad range of college graduates and experienced professionals with backgrounds in computer science and other quantitative-intense fields, such as engineering, mathematics and science. In addition to the 400 direct jobs that will be created at the center, LED estimates the project will result in approximately 406 new indirect jobs, for a total of more than 800 new permanent jobs in Northeast Louisiana. Project will include 50,000-square-foot facility and result in more than 340 new direct and indirect jobs

Jennings, LA -- Gov. Bobby Jindal and Metalplate Galvanizing Chairman Hartwell Davis Jr. announced a $9.75 million capital investment to develop a metal galvanizing plant in Jennings. With the development of a 50,000-square-foot facility, the company will create 104 new direct jobs with an average annual salary of $46,300, plus benefits. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project will result in an additional 245 new indirect jobs, for a total of more than 340 new jobs in the Southwest Region. The company estimates the project will generate 50 construction jobs as well.

Gov. Jindal said, “Louisiana’s Southwest Region has become a beacon for major new investment and industrial activity, and we are proud to add Metalplate Galvanizing to the growing list of companies that have selected Louisiana for new business investment.

Mid-June Completion for AMGH Building

West Plains, MO -- The West Plains Economic Development happy to announce that work is progressing on the new 42,000 squarefoot building for Air Medical Group Holdings (AMGH) on Worley Drive in West Plains, with a milder-than-normal Winter resulting in a mid-June ompletion date.

The new facility will house 300 existing employees on a 7.24-acre tract of land for the world's largest independent air medical services provider. The $8.5 million project also includes a $1.6 million capital investment for new roads, water, sewer and electric lines. As a result, we expect the creation of 20 new jobs as a result.

Savannah, GA -- The Georgia Senate unanimously passed legislation Tuesday that dots the "i's" and crosses the "t's" on the $706 million Savannah Harbor deepening project.

The bill, which now moves to the state House of Representatives, ensures that the state would indemnify the federal government for any liability that arises from the project.

The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, was virtually unchanged in December from November, failing to rise after five consecutive months of increases, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ (BTS). The December 2014 index level (123.8) was 30.9 percent above the April 2009 low during the most recent recession.

The level of freight shipments in December measured by the Freight TSI (123.8) was less than one-tenth of 1 percent below the all-time high level of 123.9 in November 2014. BTS’ TSI records begin in 2000.

Federal ruling issued approves port authorities’ request for re-designation of regional harbor

The Ports of Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky -- The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority and the Northern Kentucky Port Authority are pleased to announce formal final approval to re-designate the Port of Cincinnati to include a larger geographic region was recently received.

The United States Army Corps of Engineers has issued approval for modification of the Port of Cincinnati 26-mile statistical boundary. The Army Corps Navigation and Civil Works Decision Support Center issued the approval of the expansion and the name change to “The Ports of Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky.” The port district now includes a 226.5 mile reach of the Ohio River, including a 7-mile reach of the Licking River, in 15 counties.

Global manufacturing leader to build manufacturing facility in Berkeley County

Charleston, WV -- Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today announced global consumer products giant Procter  & Gamble (P&G)  will build a new manufacturing plant in Berkeley County.  The new facility is just the second manufacturing location that P&G has  built in the United States since 1971 and represents an investment of approximately $500 million.

“Over the past 14 months, we’ve been working hand-in-hand with the team at Procter & Gamble to bring this type of investment to the Mountain State,” Gov. Tomblin said. “For years, we’ve worked to create a business climate that makes West Virginia a national and global competitor for new investments, and companies around the world are noticing the changes we’ve made. We are showing these major corporations that West Virginia is a good place to do business and the right place to make an investment.”

Company plans to increase its Kentucky workforce by a third; modernize facility

Frankfort, KY -- More jobs are coming to southwestern Kentucky. Gov. Steve Beshear today announced Douglas Autotech Corp. plans to expand its operations in Christian County. 

Douglas Autotech, a manufacturer of automotive controls, steering columns and shifters, is expected to create up to 115 jobs – a more than 30 percent increase of its workforce – and invest $14.1 million into the project.

“This is an outstanding day for Hopkinsville and the Commonwealth,” said Gov. Beshear. “I’m thrilled Kentucky could partner with Douglas Autotech to make this possible and bring 115 new jobs to the area. The automotive industry is a key component of our economy, and Douglas Autotech adds to the strength and success of the industry in the state.”

Fort Worth, TX -- BNSF Railway Company (BNSF) announced that its 2015 capital program for its operations in Nebraska will be an estimated $226 million for rail capacity improvement projects and maintenance. Unlike other modes of freight transportation, U.S. railroads own and maintain their own networks. Birmingham, AL -- Motion Industries, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of Genuine Parts Company, is proud to announce the purchase of Oil & Gas Supply, located in Anchorage, Alaska.  The acquisition was finalized on February 2, 2015.

Oil & Gas Supply has two locations in Alaska – Anchorage and Kenai – providing industrial and hydraulic fluid power hoses, fitting and repair services, as well as tank truck parts to the oil and gas industry.  The purchase of Oil & Gas Supply expands Motion Industries’ Northwest footprint, serving industries including mining, construction, and fishing, in addition to oil and gas.

$2 Billion Global Command Center Will be One of Apple’s Largest Investments
 
Phoenix, AZ -- Governor Doug Ducey today announced that Apple will be expanding in Arizona, with a $2 billion investment in Mesa on a command center for the company's global networks -- representing one of the company's largest investments in history. 
  
The facility is expected to employ 150 full-time Apple employees, with 300-500 construction and trade jobs. Additionally, Apple is making a significant investment to power the facility with 100 percent renewable energy -- building and financing solar projects that will take advantage of Arizona's excellent solar resources. The projects will produce 70 MW of clean energy, enough to power more than 14,500 Arizona homes.

Southwest Region’s newest LNG project will create 100 direct jobs and result in estimated 385 new indirect jobs

Lake Charles, LA -- Governor Bobby Jindal and Live Oak LNG Chairman Martin Houston announced the company will invest $2 billion to develop a liquefaction facility and liquefied natural gas export terminal near Lake Charles. The plant will be constructed on the Calcasieu Ship Channel, which connects the Lake Charles industrial region to worldwide markets via the Gulf of Mexico.                    

The Live Oak LNG project will create 100 new direct jobs at the liquefaction and export facility, with an average annual salary of $75,000, plus benefits. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project also will result in 385 new indirect jobs, for a total of 485 new permanent jobs in Calcasieu Parish and surrounding parishes in the Southwest Region. In addition, the LNG project will generate an estimated 1,000 construction jobs at peak building activity.

Manufacturer to invest more than $16 million in Brevard County 

Brevard County, FL -- Governor Rick Scott announced that Merritt Island Boat Works will open a new manufacturing facility in Merritt Island, which will create at least 380 new jobs and a capital investment of more than $16 million in Brevard County.

Governor Scott said, “Florida is on a mission to become the global destination for jobs and it great news for the families in Brevard County that 380 new jobs will be added to the community. While Merritt Island Boat Works considered other states for their new facility, they chose Florida as the best place to create jobs. This year, we are proposing to permanently eliminate the sales tax on manufacturing equipment so more manufacturers like Merritt Island Boat Works will choose Florida to grow and expand their business.”
